Salem VAMC serves Veterans from a 26-county area in southwestern Virginia. In addition to our main medical center in Salem, we offer a number of services to our patients in our Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). See the CBOC locations on the right.
For your convenience, designated waiting areas are located throughout the facility. You may also want to review our Visiting Hours and Policies. If you are visiting a Veteran in an intensive care unit, a phone is conveniently located at the unit entranceway. Please use this phone to contact the nursing station for admittance.
Salem Veterans Affairs (VA) Police Service consists of federal police officers who provide 24-hour patrols of the facility and parking lots. For general police assistance, please dial 2225. In case of an emergency, dial 2224. If calling from off the campus, you may contact the VA Police by calling (540) 983-1044. Report all suspicious or criminal activity, vehicle accidents, and personal property losses to the VA Police while on the facility grounds immediately.
Several of our parking lots are equipped with emergency call boxes that automatically ring to the Police Communications Center and answered by a Police dispatcher. Emergency call boxes are also located throughout some hallways in the facility and are also answered by a Police dispatcher.
The Salem VAMC is equipped with security cameras throughout the campus which are monitored by the dispatchers in the VA Police Communication Center 24-hours a day.
Because the Medical Center is Federal property, all persons and bags are subject to search. In addition, weapons, alcohol, and illegal drugs are prohibited. VA Police enforce posted rules and regulations, to include speed limits, and parking regulations. Enforcement action is through usage of Courtesy Violation Notice, U.S. District Court Violation Notice, or physical arrest as appropriate.
