Welcome Home American Heroes - the third Annual Salem VAMC and Star City Cruisers Car, Truck and Cycle Show will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm (EST) in the field between the Salem VA Medical Center (VAMC) and the Virginia Veterans Care Center (VVCC) -- 1970 Roanoke Boulevard; Salem, VA 24153.
The annual Welcome Home event is coordinated each year by VA Voluntary Service, Star City Cruisers and the OEF/OIF/OND staff. Numerous volunteers assist with the logistics for the event and escort hospitalized Veterans to the field to participate in the program. Along with registered volunteers, employees from Police, Facility Management, Canteen and many others help make this event successful.
This year the event will include a cruise-in on Friday, August 19 with musical entertainment provided by New Tradition (sponsored by the Salem Rotary Club). The evening will conclude with a memorial vigil in recognition of Veterans who have sacrificed their lives or been affected by combat.
Members of Salem VAMC's Rural Health Team will be present to share information about services for Veterans, preventive health care, and more. (For a list of other Rural Health events, please visit the Event Calendar on this website or the Salem VAMC monthly newsletter, "Just the Facts," under the RESOURCES link).
Awards will be announced at 3:00 pm. Lunch will be available free for OEF/OIF/OND Veterans.
