Acting Chief of Staff
Dr. Herimone (Les) Chappell, FACP, FACHE, is the Deputy Chief of Staff for the Salem VA Medical Center. In this role she is the number 2 physician at the medical center, responsible for clinical operations and management of services, under the leadership of the Chief of Staff. Dr. Chappell graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine and completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Medical College of Georgia. She started her career in private practice in Central Ohio and ultimately retired from that role as the managing partner. She is the former Chief of Internal Medicine for N.A.T.O. Healthcare Brussels, Belgium; Regional Medical Director for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Region V Tricare, and an Internal Medicine Consultant for Department of Defense - U.S. Army Clinics, USAEUR Command. She began her VHA career 17 years ago at the Dayton VA Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. Dr.Chappell has been a staff physician, Lead Physician for PACT, Chief Medical Officer for the Corpus Christi Outpatient Clinic in VISN 17 , and most recently the Medical Director and Associate Chief of Staff for the Kernersville HCC, as part of the Salisbury Health Care System. Dr. Chappell has over 28 years of experience in the practice of medicine, clinical operations and health care policy with a focus on health care management. She is a fellow in American College of Physicians and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives .

Acting Deputy Chief of Staff
Dr. Bhaba Misra is the Assistant Chief of Medicine for the Salem VAMC and is currently detailed as the Acting Deputy Chief of Staff for the Salem VA Medical Center. Working under Dr Chappell’s leadership, he is responsible for the clinical operations and management of services for the medical center. Dr Misra completed his undergraduate degree at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VA Tech) at Blacksburg, Virginia. He has a worked as a Programmer and Analyst, Computer Systems Engineer and Chief Computer Systems Engineer at Virginia Tech before working in private industry. Dr. Misra completed his corporate experience responsible with operations and oversight of software development, quality assurance, network and phone operations, local office rollouts and customer service as Senior Vice President for Installinc, an East Coast installation services provider based in New York City . He was also managing director for his own consulting LLC for six years, with his largest clients being American Electric Power and Pequot Capital. He completed his medical school at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia and medical residency at HCA LewisGale. Dr. Misra has worked in hospital medicine as well as correctional medicine before joining the Salem VA Medical Center. He is a fellow in the American College of Physicians as well as the American College of Osteopathic Internists.

Associate Director Patient/Nursing Service
Pam McAnally, MSN, RN, is detailed as Acting Associate Direct for Patient Care Services at the Salem VA Medical Center effective July 22, 2018. Ms. McAnally is responsible for management and oversight to the facility’s Nursing Service, Chaplin Service, and Sterile Processing Service. She previously served as the Chief Nurse of Specialty Care since 2015, where she was responsible for nursing personnel in the OR/PACU, Medical and Surgical Specialty Clinics, Preadmission Clinic, Outpatient Surgery and Procedural Unit, Interventional Radiology, Cardiac Cath and Recovery, Dialysis, and Chemo Infusion Unit. Ms. McAnally also completed a detail as the Acting Associate Director for Patient Care Services at the Marion, Illinois VA Medical Center from August 2017 to February 2018. Ms. McAnally joined the Salem VA Medical Center in 2005 as a staff nurse in the Day Hospital/Pain Clinic and has also served as a Nurse Manager for several of the procedural and specialty clinics. Prior to coming to the Salem VAMC, Ms. McAnally was a business owner and case manager for workers’ compensation injuries, long term disability, long term care assessment, and medical reviews. She also has previous ICU and free-standing surgery center experience. Ms. McAnally received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Radford University in 1987. She completed her Master of Science in Healthcare Systems Management from Loyola University in 2010.
